RUNNERS DO WELL IN LARGE, MUDDY MARSHALL MEET

Jody Ressel, int his first year of cross country, is now a solid number four runner on the varsity team.

Laura Unverferth's ninth place finish highlighted the Jackson cross country teams' outing at the Marshall County (Ken.) Invitational, Oct. 9.

Unverferth, who clocked in with a 20;33 time, helped the "A" girls take fourth place out of 19 teams. Julie Wunderlich and Carol Koening also medaled. Wunderlich was 19th, at 21:12 and Carol Koening 21st at 21:24.

Coach Andrea Talley was also impressed with Jessie Cattron and Jennifer Watkins, who enjoyed "breakthrough races." Cattron was 72nd in the large field, clocking in at 24:00. Watkins was 77th, at 24:15.

The "B" girls took second, meanwhile, with the entire six-person team medaling. The balanced finish saw Amanda Lowes finish number 81, Jessica Craft 93, Jennifer Stiegemeyer 102, Jessica Wilkerson 109, Cortney Hinkebein 110 and Heather Sanders 120. Less than two minutes separated Lowes' 24:29 and Sanders' 26:12.

The varsity boys "A" team took 13th place int he muddy, wet 5,000 meter course. Josh Minson medaled, placing 21st, at 17:46. The next best finish was Zach Friedrick's 42nd place finish (18:20). More than 250 runners were in the boys' race.

The boys "B" team took eighth, led by Michael Birk's 138th place finish, while the "C" team took third. David Fee's 188th place finish led the "C" squad.

Jackson will host the district meet Oct. 23 in the Jackson City Park.
