SIKESTON -- Cape Central kept it close in the first half, but Charleston exerted its dominance in the second half and pulled away with a 70-43 win over the winless Tigers in the consolation semifinals of the Sikeston Tournament Thursday night.

Seventh-seeded Cape Central, which fell to 0-4, only trailed 26-21 at halftime, but third-seeded Charleston's man-to-man defense wreaked havoc in the second half.

"When they picked up that pressure we got scared, tired, impatient, and we put the ball on the floor," said Cape Central coach Brett Reutzel. "They pushed us away from the basket with pressure. We were creating some openings early on. Our ball movement was poor in the second half. We couldn't get it inside to (Ross) Conner."

Conner scored 15 points to pace Cape Central while Jonathan Ayers netted 10 points.

Lezcano Dean, of Charleston, was the high scorer of the contest, scoring 19 points. Howard Biles recorded 13 while teammate Terrance Gillespie added 12.

In other Sikeston Tournament action, New Madrid knocked off No. 2 Blytheville 62-48 in a semifinal game to set a championship game between the sixth-seeded Eagles and No. 5 Kennett, while No. 1 seed Sikeston and No. 3 Charleston will play in the consolation game at 5:30 tonight.. The third-place game between No. 8 Notre Dame and No. 2 Blytheville will take place at 7 and the championship game will follow at approximately 8:30.

CHAFFEE -- Second-seeded Scott City edged sixth-seeded Chaffee 36-30 to advance to Saturday's championship game against top-seed Kelly.
