SEMO SOFTBALL NABS FIRST WIN

Southeast Missouri State University's softball team picked up its first win of the season Sunday, downing visiting Harvard 5-1.

The game was part of what was supposed to be the Southeast Classic Tournament. But after several games were wiped out Saturday by inclement weather, an official tourney never took place.

Christine Engelhardt pitched a three-hitter to lead the Otahkians. She stuck out five, walked two and the only run she allowed was unearned.

"She had an outstanding performance," said Southeast coach Lana Richmond, whose squad is now 1-3.

Kelsey White had two of Southeast's six hits and she drove in two runs. Jenny Oermann and Renee Enos also had RBIs.

Chelsea Thoke took the loss, allowing three earned runs. She fanned nine and walked three.

Other games Sunday in what turned out to be basically a round-robin event saw Southwest Missouri win twice, downing Harvard 1-0 and Western Illinois 3-2. Also, Harvard beat Northern Iowa 1-0 and Northern Iowa defeated Western Illinois 3-0.

Southeast and Harvard will have a 2 p.m. doubleheader today at the Otahkians new complex on Sprigg and Bertling streets.
