SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- San Jose State used a sacrifice fly in the 10th inning Friday to down Southeast Missouri State's softball team 5-4 in pool play of the Sacramento State Capital Classic Tournament.

Later Friday, the Otahkians suffered a 9-2 setback to Oregon.

San Jose State (9-26) scored one run in the first inning and three runs in the second before the Otahkians (3-8) scored two in the second and two more in the sixth.

Jenny Oermann and Anne Trieb each had two hits for Southeast. Trieb had a two-run double in the sixth.

Christine Engelhardt suffered the tough-luck loss, going 8 1/3 innings. She allowed one run on four hits and a walk, while fanning five. Englehardt pitched in relief of Angie Godfrey who allowed four runs on four hits and two walks in 1 2/3 innings.

Against Oregon, Southeast managed five hits. Oregon had 13 hits and took advantage of five errors by the Otahkians.

Debbie Schmelz suffered the loss in three innings, allowing four runs (three earned) on seven hits and a walk.

On Thursday, the University of Nebraska clobbered Southeast 10-1.

The Otahkians held Nebraska scoreless until the fourth inning, when the Cornhuskers scored three runs. Nebraska added two more in the sixth and five in the seventh.

Eight different Nebraska batters provided 11 hits.

Southeast, which scored its only run in the first inning, was limited to just two hits, one by Jennifer Lizama and the other by Ginger Taylor.

Schmelz suffered the loss for Southeast in 5 1/3 innings. She allowed five runs (three earned) on five hits and three walks. She struck out four.
