In a Short package, Southeast Missouri State University's men's basketball team received both offense and defense.
The Indians addressed their guard needs Thursday when they signed Antonio Short, a NJCAA second team All-American out of Moberly Community College.
The Indians hope the 6-foot-2 sophomore will help fill some of the void created with the graduation of point guard Kahn Cotton and shooting guard Cory Johnson.
Short averaged 19.5 points and four rebounds per game last season and was named the MVP in NJCAA Region 16.
"We're excited about Short deciding to join our basketball program," said Southeast coach Gary Garner. "He is a true two guard who can also play the point. Short is a very good athlete who we expect great things from."
Short comes with a ringing endorsement from Moberly coach Kenny Seifert.
"Southeast is getting a great basketball player," said Seifert. "Short is a very competitive individual who really developed during his two years here at Moberly. He is very quick and athletic and is a prolific outside scorer who is very aggressive while taking the ball to the basket."
Seifert also called Short the best defensive player in Region 16.
Short attended Moberly Community College out of Fairdale High School in Louisville, Ky.
Short joins a Southeast recruiting class that already includes 7-2 center Kostas Avgerinos of Athens, Greece, three-time Missouri all-state player Tim Scheer (6-6) of New Haven High School, 6-5 all-state guard Mike Sutherland of Lutheran North High School and 6-8 junior college forward Jamel Richardson of Florissant Valley Community College.
