Tennessee-Martin's hitters surely felt a bit envious Saturday. The Skyhawks had to sit through Southeast Missouri State University's offensive field day while themselves being denied anything of the sort.

Ryan Spille, who improved to 9-1, limited Ohio Valley Conference baseball mate Martin to four hits as Southeast won the opener 11-2 before 1,105 at Capaha Field. Southeast won the second game 6-0 behind Dan Huesgen's three-hitter.

Southeast, which will wrap up the three-game set today at 2 p.m. when Chad Bogenpohl faces Skyhawks ace Wesley Freeman, surged to 19-21 overall and 8-5 in conference play, one game behind a trio of teams atop the league standings. Martin is 13-30 and 3-11, last in the conference.

The Indians scored in each inning in the opener and rapped out 15 hits. That output was tempered a bit in the nightcap, but with Huesgen carrying a perfect game into the fifth, it was more than sufficient.

"It was just an exceptional day for the entire club," coach Mark Hogan said. "I was really proud of our club all the way around: pitching, defense and hitting."

As Spille held Martin scoreless until Scott Hall's two-run homer in the sixth, Southeast gained control quickly in the opener.

Jeremy Johnson, who was 4-for-4, had a solo homer in the first. Brad Berry and Darin Kinsolving each had two-run blasts, Berry's coming in the second and Kinsolving's in the sixth. Kinsolving's homer was his team-leading 10th.

Clemente Bonilla Jr. and Kyle Yount both were 3-for-3, Phil Warren 2-for-3 and Berry 2-for-2.

Neither team gained a hit in the second game until Warren's home run in the fourth, a shot of more than 400 feet to center. Southeast tacked on two runs in the fifth on Yount and Warren's RBI hits. The Indians added three runs in the sixth as Steve Lowe had a solo homer.

Chuck Seymour snapped Huesgen's perfect game with a double on his first pitch of the fifth. Martin threatened only in the sixth, but with two on and one out, Huesgen induced two ground outs. Huesgen recorded his second consecutive shutout.

"I kept my changeup and my fastball low," said Huesgen, who improved to 5-4, "and I was getting a lot of ground balls. When I'm doing that I'm effective.

"Our hitters have been doing a great job lately, and the least I could do for them is pitch a little bit."
