BLOOMFIELD -- Sometimes promises are hard to keep.

But Notre Dame girls basketball coach Jerry Grim was a man of his word -- barely -- as his top-seeded Lady Bulldogs rolled past eighth-seed East Prairie 95-10 in Saturday's opening round of the Class 2A, District 2 Tournament.

"I promised East Prairie's coach we wouldn't score 100 points on them," said Grim. "After we scored 65 in the first half it was hard not to score."

Grim played all 13 of his players and they all scored. Randi Senciboy led the way with 24 points, followed by Julie Martin 15, Olivia Beel 13, and Melissa Maurer 10.

The Lady Bulldogs' point-total is the highest in the history of the school according to Grim. Notre Dame led 41-4 after one quarter and 65-4 at halftime. East Prairie ends its season winless.

Notre Dame, ranked 10th in Class 2A, will play fourth-seed Greenville in a semifinal Tuesday at 7 p.m.

In other District 2 action Saturday, second-seed Kelly and No. 3 Scott City advanced to Tuesday's other semifinal at 8:30 p.m. with easy wins.

Jessica Dees scored 12 points and grabbed 12 rebounds to lead Scott City past No. 6 Chaffee 57-24. Amy O'Brien had a team-high 18 points for Scott City (19-5).

Scott City led 8-0 after one quarter and 24-7 at halftime. A 20-6 scoring advantage in the third quarter sealed the contest for Scott City

Kate Nolen led Chaffee (4-19) with eight points.

Kelly also had an easy time in its district opener. The Lady Hawks improved to 20-6 with a 59-23 victory over seventh-seed Woodland.

Jennifer McNiell scored 19 points and Pam Essner 15 for Kelly. The Lady Hawks led 14-7 after one quarter and 32-11 at halftime.

Lindsey Allmon scored 10 for Woodland.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Puxico 65, Chaffee 49

BLOOMFIELD -- Chaffee ended its season with a 2-20 record as the Red Devils fell Saturday night in the opening round of the Class 2A, District 2 Tournament.

The Red Devils, the 10th and last seed, got 13 points from Wayne McAllister and 12 from Andy Proffer.

Puxico, seeded seventh, was led by Mike Owens with 22 points. The Indians will face second-seeded Scott City at 7 p.m. Monday in the quarterfinals.

West County 85, St. Vincent 79

CRYSTAL CITY -- Third-seed West County scored the first eight points of the fourth quarter to snap a 56-56 tie and eventually eliminate St. Vincent Saturday night in the first round of the Class 2A, District 3 Tournament.

The Bulldogs made 15 of 16 free throws in the final quarter, outscoring St. Vincent 29-23 and ending the Indians' upset bid. St. Vincent, the sixth seed, ended its season 5-20, but did field a 23-1 JV squad this season.

Ryan Prost led St. Vincent with 17 points. Josh Wheeler scored all 15 of his points from behind the 3-point line and Kyle Eggers also added 15. Sophomore Justin Amschler added 12 for the Indians.
