Week report: Blattel stepped up his play last week with two double-double performances as Delta claimed its first district title since 1976. In an 89-62 semifinal win over Richland, the 6-foot Blattel totaled 20 points and 10 rebounds. In the title game Friday against Scott County Central, Blattel responded with another 20 points and grabbed 12 rebounds in an 81-66 victory.

On the season: In his first season as a starter, Blattel has averaged a steady 14 points and 5.6 rebounds playing in the shadows of Delta superstars Garrett DeBrock and Shawn Kinder. Delta completed the week with a 20-7 record and were still playing in the state tournament this week.

Coach's comments: "Andy's done a good job for us all year, he just hasn't done the things that show up in the scorebook. He's a good defensive player and plays a lot bigger than he is. His rebounding has really helped. He had several double-digit scoring games, but the last few he's really been aggressive offensively. Before, he really didn't look to score, but the last three or four games he's been catching the ball, taking it to the hole and finishing.

Week report: Eakins totaled only two points Wednesday in the Lady Indians 58-34 4A Sectional victory over Washington, but rebounded to knock down two important 3-pointers and net eight points in Saturday's 48-34 quarterfinal win over Cor Jesu. The two victories advanced Jackson, ranked third in the state with a 25-2 mark, into the state final four for the fourth year in a row. Eakins has been a member of three of those teams.

On the season: The 5-foot-5 Eakins has been Jackson's top outside threat, converting 50 of 124 3-point attempts this season (40 percent). The two-year starter averages 7.1 points, two assists and two steals a game.

Coach's comments: "Dana has been a key 3-point shooter for us the past three years. She's got a positive attitude, is a good team leader and works hard. She really worked hard in the off-season to get the most out of her ability."
