Cape Girardeau Central High's girls swimming team opened its home schedule Wednesday with an exciting 95-91 dual-meet victory over Fort Zumwalt South.

The Lady Tigers, now 2-1 in duals, won 10 of the 12 events.

"We not only got a lot of first places but we also had a lot of thirds and fourths which really made a difference in the team total," said Central coach Dayna Powell. "It was a good meet. We'd never beaten that team before."

Central had three double individual winners: Jean Maguire in the 200 IM (2:25.67, state cut time) and 100 freestyle (57.48, state cut); Grace Freeman in the 50 freestyle (25.23, state cut) and 100 breaststroke (1:13.72, state cut); and Mary Beth Owen in the 100 fly (1:01.99, state cut) and 100 backstroke (1:01.72, state cut).

Also winning for the Lady Tigers were Julia Lufcy in diving (career-best 167.85 points), Jennifer Freeze in the 500 freestyle (6:14.13); the 200 medley relay team of Maguire, Marci Kester, Owen and Freeman (2:03.35); and the 400 freestyle relay team of Freeze, Maguire, Owen and Freeman (3:51.89).

Freeze was also second in the 200 freestyle.

Finishing third were Jill Mosebach in the 200 freestyle and 500 freestyle; Kester in the 200 IM and 100 breaststroke; and the 200 freestyle relay team of Kester, Casey Brennan, Mosebach and Freeze.

Central will be back in action March 30 at home against Oakville.
