JACKSON -- Jackson used two three-run home runs to knock off Poplar Bluff 6-1 Friday in high school baseball action.

Todd Wessel belted a three-run shot in the first inning and Justin Gladish added a three-run blast in the sixth inning. Poplar Bluff scored its lone run in the third.

Jason Goben went the distance for Jackson (8-10), allowing five hits while striking out five and walking three.

"It was one of our best games," said Jackson coach Sam Sides. "We made only two errors, which is quite and improvement over what we've been playing. We've been beating ourselves a lot fielding-wise."

Chaffee 5, Oran 0

CHAFFEE -- Tommy Stidham pitched the Red Devils past state-ranked Oran, hurling a three-hitter Friday.

Stidham struck out six, walking none as Chaffee improved to 12-6. Oran, ranked third in Class 1A, fell to 14-3.

"Tommy was very, very sharp; super sharp," said Chaffee coach Bruce Qualls. "He got into a couple of jams, but he pitched his way out of it. He was very impressive."

Dusty Leggett, Jeremy Vandeven and Garrett Senciboy all doubled for Chaffee. The Red Devils had six hits as a team.

Oak Ridge 15, Zalma 3

OAK RIDGE -- Oak Ridge broke loose for 10 runs in the fourth inning and defeated visiting Zalma in five innings.

Oak Ridge (6-7) took a 5-2 lead into the fourth, where it produced eight of its 14 hits on the game.

Beau Morrison led the attack with three hits and two RBIs. Winning pitcher Matt Preusser helped his own cause with a home run in the third inning and finished with two hits and two RBIs. Brent Schreiner, Lake Friese and Rob Landgraf all had two hits.

Preusser won in relief of Greg Wibbenmeyer, pitching two innings and striking out all six batters he faced.

Delta 9, Leopold 2

LEOPOLD -- Delta gained some breathing room with a six-run seventh inning and defeated Leopold.

Delta (6-7) scored twice in the second and once in the third before Leopold pushed across both its runs in the sixth. Leading 3-2, Delta then iced the game in the seventh.

Winning pitcher Garrett DeBrock also led the Bobcats with his bat. DeBrock allowed just three hit, striking out 13 and walking five. He also had two hits and three RBIs. Shawn Kinder added three hits and two RBIs and Greg Voelker had two hits. Delta had 10 hits overall.

SOFTBALL

Chaffee 7, Oran 2

CHAFFEE -- Amy Burnett remained undefeated on the season as Chaffee turned back Oran.

Burnett had plenty of cushion to work with as she improved to 7-0. Chaffee built a 7-0 lead after six innings as it improved its season record to 12-2.

Burnett struck out two, walked four and allowed six hits. She also had three of Chaffee's 11 hits and four RBIs.

Leopold 17, Delta 14

LEOPOLD -- Leopold scored in every inning of a makeup game as they slowly pulled away from Delta.

Lisa Peters went the distance for Leopold. She allowed 10 hits and 14 walks.

Leopold (7-2) banged out 16 hits. Ashley Jansen, Sarah Gowen and Jennifer VanGennip all had three hits. Jansen had two doubles while Gowen had a double and a triple.

GOLF

St. Vincent wins district

PERRYVILLE -- St. Vincent handily won the seven-team Class 1A district tournament it hosted Friday.

The Indians shot a team score of 303 while Viburnum was second at 324. Both teams advance to the state meet May 18-19 in Jefferson City.

St. Vincent had the top two medalists as Joe Ponder shot 72 and John Paulus 75.

Also for the Indians, Matt Hoke was fifth (77) while Craig Schumer and Ryan Prost tied for sixth (79).

SOCCER

Fort Zumwalt South 2, Jackson 1

ST. LOUIS -- Playing with only one substitute Friday due to another school activity, Jackson fell to a solid Fort Zumwalt South squad.

Jessica Shultz scored the Lady Indians only goal to make the score 1-1 at halftime.
