EAST PRAIRIE -- Tommy Stidham continued his impressive pitching Tuesday as Chaffee High's baseball team claimed a 3-0 victory at East Prairie.

Stidham, a sophomore, hurled his second straight shutout and improved his personal record to 7-0. He allowed three hits while striking out eight and walking two.

Chaffee, which improved its record to 13-7, scored all three runs in the fourth inning. Travis Hanback had two of the Red Devils' six hits.

"Tommy has been throwing really well," said Chaffee coach Bruce Qualls. "He's been our most effective pitcher. He's just really doing a good job."

The Red Devils close out the regular season today at home against Charleston.

Kelly 10, Scott City 0

BENTON -- Kelly improved to 13-4 and avenged a recent loss to Scott City by hammering the Rams in five innings Tuesday.

Jim Hulshof pitched a one-hitter. He fanned three and walked one.

The Hawks had nine hits. Nathan Dirnberger went 2-for-2 with a home run and two RBIs. Brad Kolwyck and Hulshof both added two hits. Kolwyck and Jeff Patengil each had three RBIs.

Kelly ends the regular season today by hosting Portageville.

Oran 1, Bell City 0

ORAN -- Dustin Glastetter prevailed in a pitcher's duel over Gabe Scherer as Oran slipped past Bell City Tuesday.

Glastetter fanned 13, walked one and hurled a two-hitter as Oran improved to 16-3.

Scherer allowed just three hits while fanning three.

The game's only run came in the first inning. Justin McAllister singled, stole second and third and scored on Dustin Dannenmueller's double.

Oran hosts East Prairie Thursday.

SOFTBALL

Notre Dame 16, Charleston 1

Notre Dame got its record above the .500 mark for the first time this season Tuesday with a four-inning rout of Charleston on Senior Day in the final home game for the Lady Bulldogs.

Senior Shanna Kelley went the distance on the mound, allowing only one hit as the Lady Bulldogs improved to 8-7.

Notre Dame clubbed 14 hits. Suzanne Schwartz went 4-for-4 with two RBIs and senior Erin Hamm was 3-for-3. Randi Senciboy and Laura Huber also had two hits. Senciboy ripped a home run and collected three RBIs.

Notre Dame wraps up its season in the Sikeston Tournament this weekend. The Lady Bulldogs play Gideon in a first-round game Friday at 4 p.m. The winner advances to meet East Carter County on Saturday at 10 a.m.

Chaffee 5, East Prairie 0

EAST PRAIRIE -- Chaffee improved to 14-2 Tuesday as Jamie Duncan hurled a shutout.

Duncan scattered five hits and fanned 12 while walking three.

Chaffee had only four hits, Amy Burnett getting two.

The Lady Devils will close out the season today at home against Charleston.

Oran 8, Bell City 0

ORAN -- Sophomore Kelly Wheeler struck out 18 Bell City batters on the way to a no-hitter Tuesday. Oran improved to 7-6.

Wheeler (2-1) did allow eight walks in recording the shutout. She also had two of Oran's 14 hits. Teammates Sara Bouge, Crystal Cochren and Melissa Loper also tallied two safeties.

The Lady Cubs play at Scott City today.

GIRLS SOCCER

Notre Dame 3, Marion, Ill. 0

Notre Dame improved to 7-12-1 Tuesday with a shutout victory.

Jaymie Frank had two goals while Jill Edwards added one. Goalie Shannel Bueltemann recorded the shutout.

The Lady Bulldogs visits Farmington Thursday.

Jackson 9, De Soto 0

DE SOTO -- Jessica Schultz scored four goals Tuesday to lead Jackson over De Soto.

Jennifer Horst scored twice for the Lady Indians while Julie Wunderlich, Julian Hall and Dana Eakins added on goal each. Jackson is now 12-4 overall. Jackson's JV won 8-0.

Carbondale (Ill.) comes to Jackson on Thursday.

TRACK

Kelly Meet

BENTON -- The Kelly boys and girls track teams warmed up for Saturday's Class 2A district meet they'll be hosting by winning a home meet Tuesday.

The Hawks scored 163.5 points to easily defeat five other teams, including Chaffee 87, East Prairie 65, Scott City 63, Portageville 50 and Oran 24.5.

The Lady Hawks totaled 170 points to beat four other squads. Scott City was second with 76 points, followed by Chaffee 56, Portageville 40 and East Prairie 12.

"We approached this meet as just another work day for us," said Kelly coach Bill Davis. "The kids performed pretty well, but I don't think we're used to the heat yet. We're looking forward to the district."
