In just his second year at Fulton's Westminster College, Perryville native Scott Pingel is making quite an impact on the school's athletic program.

During an awards dinner April 7, Pingel was named the school's 1997-98 Male Athlete of the Year as selected by the Westminster coaching staff.

Pingel, a 1995 graduate of St. Vincent High, was a two-sport star for the Blue Jays in both football and basketball. Only a sophomore, Pingel was named to three different Division III All-American football teams as a wide receiver this past season.

Pingel caught 98 passes for 1,420 yards and 17 touchdowns as the Blue Jays compiled a 6-4 record. He finished the season ranked second in the nation in both receptions (9.8) and receiving yards per game (142).

On the basketball court Pingel earned second team all-conference honors, averaging 10.3 points and six rebounds for the 7-17 Blue Jays.
