JACKSON FALLS IN TOURNAMENT FINAL

ST. LOUIS -- Jackson High's girls softball team reached the championship game of the Cor Jesu Tournament Saturday, but found itself overpowered by Notre Dame of St. Louis 10-0.

Jackson, which won its pool with a 2-1 record, managed just two hits, struck out nine times and committed seven errors in the field.

"When you don't put the ball in play, you don't score," said Jackson coach Becky Riney. "I think the girls were a little fatigued. We went to St. Louis four days in a row."

On Friday's trip, Jackson defeated Cor Jesu 4-3 in eight innings. Cherish Tillman had three hits and Carrie Myers two. Beth Becker allowed five hits and recorded the win.

Jackson (3-3) then defeated Lindbergh 11-2. Tillman had three doubles in the attack and Megan and Myers each had two hits.

The Lady Indians concluded pool play Saturday with a 5-1 loss to Blue Springs. Beth Becker suffered the loss as Jackson allowed four unearned runs.

Cape Central also competed, but went 1-2 and did not advance out of pool play.

Central (2-2) defeated Rosary 8-2, but lost to Jefferson City 4-2 and to Notre Dame of St. Louis 5-2.

Central's Erica McDonald went 4-for-9 in the tournament while Cassie Cook went 4-for-10 with two doubles. Courtney Haman went 4-for-11 and Amber Voerg had two doubles and a triple.
