Jackson High junior Beth Becker fired a no-hitter at host Notre Dame Thursday, sparking the Lady Indians to a 9-0 victory.
Becker, who improved to 7-2, struck out eight and walked five in seven innings. She has allowed seven earned runs in 61 innings this season for a 0.80 earned run average.
"She pitches smart," said Jackson coach Becky Riney. "She's worked really hard at her position. She throws harder than you would expect for a girl her size."
"She threw strikes," said Notre Dame coach Jerry Grim, whose Lady Bulldogs dropped to 7-7. "She's a pretty decent pitcher. We just didn't hit the ball."
Jackson touched Notre Dame pitcher Jill Huber for 11 hits. Jessica Sander, Jessica Shultz, Lindsey Meyr and Megan Kuntze each had two hits. Amanda Bullinger had two RBIs and Heidi Jansen totaled three RBIs.
Jackson is 13-3 heading into its big 16-team invitational tournament that will be held Saturday.
VOLLEYBALL
Notre Dame 15-15, Oran 3-10
Behind six kills from Lynne Obermiller, who was moved up to the varsity team from the JV squad, Notre Dame won at home Thursday night.
Notre Dame is now 7-4-1.
Oran's JV won 15-10, 2-15, 15-12.
Jackson 17-8-15, Woodland 15-15-11
MARBLE HILL -- Jackson improved to 11-1-2 with a tight three-set victory over Woodland.
Woodland's Lilo Whitener had nine blocks and six kills, Toni Cowell 14 assists, Julia Cutsinger 10 assists and Sarah Booth nine digs. Woodland fell to 7-6.
Perryville 15-15, Grandview 1-11
HILLSBORO -- Perryville is now 5-4-1 after winning on the road Thursday night.
Kristen Taylor had 14 points and four kills, Jeni Blevins had eight points and five digs, Shannon Dreyer contributed six assists and Nicole Blechle added five digs.
Perryville's JV prevailed 17-15, 2-15, 15-9.
The Lady Pirates will host an eight-team tournament Saturday beginning at 9 a.m. Also competing will be Cape Central, Notre Dame, St. Vincent, Charleston, Fredericktown, St. Pius and Crystal City.
Chaffee 12-15-15, Oak Ridge 15-7-3
OAK RIDGE -- Chaffee's Jill Little tallied nine kills as Chaffee won on the road Thursday.
Chaffee improved to 3-4, dropping Oak Ridge to 1-10.
Oak Ridge's Allison Miles had three service aces, Micaela Morgan 16 assists and Jan McLane two kills.
De Soto 15-13-15, St. Vincent 13-15-10
PERRYVILLE -- St. Vincent dropped a long home match to De Soto Thursday and fell to 4-6-2. The Squaws rallied from a 10-1 deficit in the second game.
St. Vincent's Stephanie Schremp had 12 digs, Sara Cissell 16 digs, Jessica Lakenan 16 kills, Tiffany Moll eight kills, Casey Kirn 18 assists and Valerie Klaus 18 assists.
BOYS SOCCER
Notre Dame 11, Farmington 1
Notre Dame improved to 6-1 Thursday with a romp at home.
Oliver Sanders scored three goals while Chris Dirnberger added two. Scoring once apiece were Jason Garner, Tim Robert, Wesley Steele, Mark Buehrle, Rob Cuba and Nick Kapfer.
"A lot of people got in on the action and it was good to spread it around," said Notre Dame coach Brad Wittenborn. "Oliver Sanders really had a strong game."
Notre Dame's JV won 6-0 on goals from Nathan LeGrand (two), Tim Buerck, Paul Unterreiner, Shane Kistner and Timmy Wencewicz. The JV Bulldogs moved to 3-0-1.
Notre Dame will play in the Murray (Ky.) Tournament Saturday.
Cape Central 2, Poplar Bluff 0
Cape Central goalies Matt Brandt and Trevor Blattner combined for a shutout of visiting Poplar Bluff Thursday. Central improved to 4-6.
Nathan Gibbar scored on a penalty kick 15 minutes into the game. Thirty minutes later, Jon Mark Thompson found the net on an assist from Robbie Winschel.
Poplar Bluff's JV team won 1-0.
The Tigers will play at Fulton Saturday evening.
Jackson 8, Marion 0
MARION, Ill. -- Jackson raised its record to 5-2 with a big road victory Thursday.
Spencer Knowlan, Chris Kohm and Nathan Windeknecht all had two goals while Ben Turner and Raju Dirnberger scored once apiece.
Kohm added two assists while goalkeeper Paul Johns earned his fourth shutout.
Jackson's JV lost 3-0.
The Indians will host Pacific Saturday afternoon.

Cape Central kept its record perfect in dual play with an easy home victory Thursday. The Lady Tigers improved to 6-0.
