A week after winning the Carbondale (Ill.) Invitational, Jackson High's girls cross country team won the 22-team Marshall County (Ky.) Invitational Saturday afternoon. A week after winning the Carbondale (Ill.) Invitational, Jackson High's girls cross country team won the 22-team Marshall County (Ky.) Invitational Saturday afternoon.

Jackson won with 70 points, eight points better than Davies County (Ky.).

The Lady Indians were paced by Amanda Beussink, who placed sixth and covered the 2.5-mile course in 15:50. She was followed by Jennifer Brown, who finished seventh in 16:02.

Also for Jackson, Julie Wunderlich placed 12th in 16:11, Sarah Stiegemeyer 15th in 16:19 and Sarah Strack 30th in 16:55.

"They're getting faster and we're bunching four of them up front pretty close together," said Jackson coach Jim Stoverink. "We're looking pretty good."

Jackson's boys placed 15th, led Blake Pope, who completed the 3.1-mile layout in 18:19 and finished 43rd. Zach Freidrich (19:09) was 78th, Josh Minson (19:35) 100th, Steven Adams (20:11) 122th and Jeremiah Keller (20:11) 123rd.

Potosi Invitational

POTOSI -- Six girls placed in the top 30 and were awarded medals as Cape Central won the nine-team race. Perryville placed third, Kelly sixth and Notre Dame ninth.

Perryville won the 11-team boys race and Central took second, followed by Kelly in fourth and Notre Dame in 10th.

Central's girls were led by Myka Bohnsack, who placed second, and Brittany Ballard, who finished third.

Central's Mark Stone placed 11th.

JV medalists were Jared Keller, Nathan Skinner and Morgan Maki for Central and Richard Reeves, Bandit Thorn and Adam Daughetee for Scott City.

Boys soccer

Jackson 1, Springfield Glendale 1

ST. LOUIS -- Jackson led 1-0 at the half but Glendale scored on a free kick in the second half and the two teams tied in a match at the Soccer Park.

Jackson's Nathan Windeknecht scored on an assist from Spencer Knowlan. The Indians are now 12-4-2.

Springfield Glendale 3, Cape Central 1

ST. LOUIS -- Cape Central struck first, but Springfield struck last and more frequently.

Central's Chris Cole opened the scoring off an assist by Arthur Pilsner, but Springfield tied the game a minute before halftime. Springfield broke the 1-1 deadlock with two goals in the final five minutes of the game.

Glendale won the JV game 1-0.

Rolla 4, Cape Central 1

ST. LOUIS -- Rolla scored three first-half goals to win the Optimist Cup.

Central (7-11-2) scored its lone goal five minutes into the second half when Nathan Gibbar netted a pass from Brad Bollwerk.

Central's JV fell 2-1. Matt Kennard scored the Tiger goal.
