PERRYVILLE -- Matt Jenkins rushed for three touchdowns and a season-high 208 yards as Perryville rolled past Windsor 27-14 in its district opener Friday night.

Perryville improved to 7-1 on the season and 1-0 in Class 4A District 2 action. Windsor fell to 4-4 overall and 0-1 in district.

"They just came out and played real solid fundamental football," said Perryville coach Jerry Tucker. "They controlled the line of scrimmage and really took it to Winsdor."

Jenkins, who topped the 100-yards mark for the fifth time this season and the 200-yard plateau for the first time, carried 24 times. He scored on runs of 2, 66 and 13 yards.

Perryville opened the scoirng on a 13-yard Joel Heuring run at the 2:31 mark of the first quarter. Heuring, who had 68 yards rushing on 15 attempts, added the extra pont for a 7-0 lead.

Windsor then attempted a reverse on the ensuing kickoff and fumbled the ball. Perryville recovered at the Owl 20 and Jenkins plowed in from 2 yards out with 42 seconds left in the period. Heuring added the PAT for a 14-0 lead.

Jenkins broke loose for this 66-yard TD run at the 8:39 mark of the third quarter. He concluded Perryville's scoring with his 13-yard scamper with 2:30 left in the game.

Jake Tarrillion spear-headed the Pirate defense with two fumble recoveries, five solo tackles and two assists. Wes Amberger added six solos and four assists and Shawn Statler had one interception.

Scott City 74, Grandview 0

SCOTT CITY -- At halftime Scott City led 62-0 -- yes, 62-0 -- and eased into a victory in its Class 2A, District 2 opener.

"We hoped we could take control early," said Scott City coach Terry Flannigan, whose wish was granted.

Junior Matt Underwood scored five touchdowns, four on runs and the other on a reception.

In the first quarter, Underwood had TD runs of 22 and 3 yards and caught a 20-yard scoring pass from quarterback Lance Amick. Dale Burger added a 9-yard TD burst as the Rams led 28-0 entering the second quarter.

After a 22-yard TD pass from Amick to Jason Bickings early in the second quarter, Brandon Amick returned an interception 22 yards for a score.

Amick later hit Bickings for a 15-yard TD before Underwood exploded in the final two and a half minutes of the half. Underwood followed a 63-yard TD run with an 84-yard scoring run six seconds before the intermission.

Up 62-0, in the third quarter Scott Johnston scored on a 27-yard interception return and Dale Burger had a 10-yard TD run.

The Rams were blanked in the fourth quarter.

Fredericktown 20, Dexter 12

DEXTER -- Senior Jeremy Penwell ran for 220 yards in 24 carries as Fredericktown surprised Dexter in the Black Cats' Class 3A, District 1 opener.

"It's been quite a while since we've had a meaningful win in the district," said Fredericktown coach Kent Gibbs. "It was a great win for our program."

Fredericktown (3-5) led 7-0 at the half after Luke McKinnis hit Scotty Stevens on a 12-yard pass in the first quarter.

Penwell had a 67-yard TD run in third quarter and McKinnis added a 1-yard score as the Black Cats led 20-6 entering the fourth quarter.

Dexter fell to 4-4. "They (Dexter) really didn't have any big plays," Gibbs said, "and that helped us win the game."

Charleston 31, Crystal City 7

CHARLESTON -- Charleston rushed 43 times for 246 yards and topped Crystal City in its opening Class 2A, District 2 game. Jeff Ewing totaled 140 yards in 17 rushes.

All but 32 of Charleston's yards came on the ground; Jason Ward completed 3 of 6 passes.

Travis Kent also ran for 81 yards in 11 attempts for Charleston (3-4).

Volleyball

Leopold 15-15

Bell City 13-9

LEOPOLD -- Leopold finished its regular season on a high note with a sweep of Bell City.

Gwen Vandeven and Hannah Jansen both led the charge with 11 kills. Kelly Wesbecher added 14 assists.

In JV play, Leopold won 15-12, 10-15, 15-11.
