SCOTT CITY -- Scott City High football coach Terry Flannigan said his team has sought to hand out "some messages to some folks and say that we are for real."

Well, these Rams are for real -- it's just the outcomes of their games that leave onlookers in disbelief. Scott City was held scoreless in the second half in its Class 2A, District 2 game Friday night ... but shattered Crystal City nonetheless, 69-13.

That victory, which came one week after a 74-0 dismantling of Grandview, sets the stage for next week's district title tilt against Charleston, a 36-6 victor over Grandview Friday.

Scott City, which led 62-0 after the first half of last week's game, upped that mark to 69-0 before halftime against Crystal City.

"We came in and did what we had to do, and did it quickly," said Flannigan, whose team improved to 8-1 overall and, along with Charleston, 2-0 in the district.

A week after rushing for five touchdowns, junior tailback Matt Underwood posted four TDs Friday. Scott City led 35-0 after one quarter as Underwood had two TD runs in the opening two and a half minutes, including one of 31 yards.

Also in the first quarter, Terry Enderle had a 9-yard TD run, quarterback Lance Amick found Brandon Amick for a 27-yard score and Jason Bickings ran back a punt 65 yards.

Underwood had TD runs of 14 and 18 yards in the second quarter. Lance Amick hit Bickings and Steven Thomas on a pair of 20-yard scores and Bradley Glenn added a 20-yard TD burst.

CHAFFEE -- On the strength of a 26-point first half, Chaffee beat Hayti in a Class 1A, District 1 game for its first win this season.

"It was extremely nice for our kids," said Chaffee coach Brian Horrell. "It was a long time coming for us, and the kids need to be commended."

The Red Devils (1-9 overall and 1-1 in the district) led 12-0 after one quarter and 26-6 at halftime.

Chaffee's G.P. Glueck scored on a 65-yard reception on a fake punt. Tommy Stidham, who rushed 16 times for 104 yards, collected two touchdowns, and quarterback Travis Hanbeck completed two TD passes to Andy Proffer, who caught three passes for 71 yards.

Hayti dropped to 0-8 and 0-2.

Perryville 32, Hillsboro 0

HILLSBORO -- The Pirates routed the state's second-ranked Class 4A team and earned their first playoff berth since 1990 in the process.

Perryville is now 8-1 overall and 2-0 in 4A, District 2 play. Hillsboro fell to 8-1 overall and 1-1 in the district.

Because Windsor defeated DeSoto Friday, Perryville has wrapped up the district title regardless of what the Pirates do in next week's regular-season finale against De Soto. Only either Windsor or Hillsboro has a chance to tie Perryville for the district title and the Pirates would win the tie-breaker because they have beaten both squads.

No details were available from Friday's game.
