The Southeast Missouri women's tennis team opened the season Saturday at home with a solid 8-1 victory over Tennessee State.

The Otahkians won five of the six singles matches and all three doubles to capture the OVC match.

"The girls all played real hard and it was a good opening match for us," said Southeast interim coach Donna Ryan.

Southeast singles results: No. 1 Isabela Slowikowska won 7-6, 6-3; No. 2 Thais Olive lost 6-4, 6-7, 5-7; No. 3 Vicky Wood won 6-2, 6-3; No. 4 Brigitte Stotter won 6-2, 6-4; No. 5 Michelle Gruber won 6-2, 6-1; and No. 6. Beth Doerr won 7-5, 2-6, 6-0.

In doubles, No. 1 Slowikowska-Stotter won 8-6; No. 2 Wood-Mel Thomas won 8-1; and No. 3 Gruber-Olive won 8-0.
