CHICAGO -- Despite several impressive individual performances, Southeast Missouri State University's women's gymnastics team fell short of winning Saturday night's Midwest Independent Championships.

The Otahkians wound up second out of four teams with a 192.125 score.

Host Illinois-Chicago won the meet with 193.475 points while Illinois State finished third (192.025) and Winona State last (186.400).

Southeast's Malia Roberts won the all-around championship with a score of 39.000. Teammate Aaron Craig was third in the all-around (38.450).

Roberts won vaulting (9.825) while tying for fourth on beam (9.800) and floor (9.800).

Southeast's Jennifer Leaman and Erin Chenier tied for second in vaulting (9.750).

Also for the Otahkians, Chenier was third on floor (9.825) while Erica Smith tied for fourth on beam (9.800).

Saturday's meet was the last regular-season competition for the Otahkians, who will not await word on individuals that may have qualified for the NCAA Central Regional meet on April 4 in Alabama.

The Otahkians' entire team will take part in the National Invitational Tournament on April 11 in Iowa City, Iowa.
