Southeast Missouri State University's baseball team continues to collect new talent for next season, signing catcher Blair Lucas and pitcher Andy Davidson.

Lucas, out of El Toro High School in California, earned league MVP honors his senior season. He batted .525 with four home runs, a school record 39 RBIs and 11 stolen bases.

"Blair is coming off just a tremendous senior year of high school and should come in to see playing time as a freshman," said Southeast coach Mark Hogan. "He is a very talented all-around athlete that can play the corners as well as catch. On top of that, he is a premier hitter."

Baseball fans in Southeast Missouri may be familiar with Davidson, a right-hander from Minnetonka, Minn. Last summer Davidson's team participated in the Mid-States Regional Junior Legion Tournament in Chaffee. He struck out 16 batters in a one-hit victory over the host.

Davidson, 17, has grown since last summer, standing 6-foot-7 and 205 pounds. As a 16-year-old he threw in the 89-90 mph range.

"Andy has a challenging fastball with a great deal of potential," said Hogan. "He can only help in adding to the depth of our pitching staff."
