JACKSON -- Last season Jackson High's Nathan Windeknecht netted a school record 27 goals in 24 games.

Riding a McGwire-like pace, Windeknecht already is threatening to uproot that mark this season.

Windeknecht, a senior, whipped in three scores during Jackson's 6-0 victory Saturday over Pacific.

The eruption was Windeknecht's fourth hat trick this season. In Jackson's 6-2 start, Windeknecht already has struck the net 15 times in just eight games, an average of almost two goals per game.

Chris Kohm, Jimmy Sievers and Raju Dirnberger added scores Saturday. Paul Johns was in goal and gained the shutout.

Jackson's JV team defeated Pacific 5-0.

Jackson Invitational

JACKSON -- Notre Dame of St. Louis beat Lutheran South 3-0 Saturday in the championship game of the 16-team tournament.

Cape Central defeated Hannibal 3-0 in the third-place game, and Seckman shut out Kelly 4-0 for fifth.

Although Jackson lost 3-1 to Oakville in its first game, the Lady Indians then reeled off three straight victories and won Pool B.

Central pitcher Kathy Michel won three games, throwing a complete game in each. She tossed a one-hitter in the third-place contest. In that game Michel also had a two-RBI double, and Erica McDonald and Courtney Haman each added two hits.

Central beat Cor Jesu 2-0 and topped St. Clair 6-4 before losing 4-0 to Notre Dame. The Lady Tigers are now 12-4.

Jackson beat Vienna, Ill., (9-0), Fox (13-0) and Hillsboro (2-1). The Lady Indians moved to 16-4.

Beth Becker won two games for Jackson and Gretchen King won one. Megan Kuntze went 10-for-14 with seven RBIs and Amanda Bullinger was 6-for-15 with six RBIs.

Volleyball

Perryville Invitational

St. Pius defeated Fredericktown 15-5, 15-2 Saturday in the championship match of the 8-team event.

St. Pius had beaten Perryville 17-15, 15-11 in a semifinal match. Fredericktown entered the title match after a 15-5, 5-15, 15-4 victory over Notre Dame.

Perryville is now 7-5-2. In the Lady Pirates' semifinal match, Jamie Amberger had five kills, Jaimee Mueller totaled five digs and Shannon Dreyer added nine assists.

Perryville went 2-1 in pool play, beating Crystal City and Charleston and falling to Notre Dame.

Girls tennis

Cape Central goes 1-1

Parkway Central defeated Cape Central and Charleston Saturday and won a four-team event at the Southeast Missouri State and Cape Central courts.

Cape Central defeated Parkway West 9-0 and lost to Parkway Central 6-3. Parkway Central also beat Charleston, 7-2.

Central's Sarah Chaudhari and Jessica Burns both went 2-0 in the quad. Liz Russell, Lara Golike, Kelley Green and Rebecca Bieser each were 1-1.
