NORMAL, Ill. -- Southeast Missouri State University's golf squad could not hold its lead Monday as the Indians wound up second in the 15-team D.A. Weibring Tournament hosted by Illinois State.
The Indians led by two strokes after Sunday's first 36 holes. But Arkansas State fired a 1-over 285 over Monday's final 18 holes while Southeast could manage only a 303.
So Arkansas State wound up at 854 while Southeast finished at 870. Southern Illinois was third at 873 and Illinois State fourth at 879.
"We just couldn't get it going," said Southeast coach Gary Squires of Monday's round. "But we beat some good teams to finish second."
Jason Owen had an even-par 72 Monday to finish at 213, which tied him for third individually. Ryan Smith (217) and Jake Salladin (218) both finished in the top 15.
Volleyball hosts SIU
Southeast's volleyball team will take on regional rival Southern Illinois at 7 tonight at Houck Field House.
The Otahkians are 6-7 after going 2-2 and finishing third over the weekend in the Southwest Missouri State Tournament. SIU is 6-5.
Junior middle blocker Angie Aschoff was named the Ohio Valley Conference Offensive Player of the Week as she had 69 kills, 51 digs and 19 block assists in five matches last week.
Following tonight's no-conference match, the Otahkians will have a pair of OVC home contests this weekend, facing Eastern Kentucky at 7 p.m. Friday and Morehead State at 4 p.m. Saturday.
Morehead State handed the five-team defending OVC champion Otahkians an upset loss earlier in the season.
