KELLY, SCOTT CITY BOYS BOTH IMPROVE SEASON MARKS TO 7-0

OAK RIDGE -- Undefeated Kelly continued its impressive run through its early season schedule with a comfortable 78-42 victory over host Oak Ridge Friday night.

Kelly improved to 7-0 while Oak Ridge dropped to 1-6.

Denver Stuckey led the Hawk offensive with 24 points while Jason Glastetter netted 11. A total of 11 Hawks found the scoring column.

Matt Preusser tallied 14 points for Oak Ridge before fouling out.

Kelly led 23-11 after one quarter and 41-21 at halftime.

Scott City 67, Advance 48

ADVANCE -- Jon Beck netted 32 points as Scott City entered the Christmas break with a perfect 7-0 record.

Ryan Weatherspoon added 11 points for the visiting Rams.

Tommy Tucker and Gary Ahern netted 19 points apiece for Advance (2-4), but no other Hornet netted more than four points.

Advance led 15-11 after one quarter, but Scott City moved ahead 36-25 by halftime.

Delta 76, Oran 67

DELTA -- Delta improved to 6-1 with a home victory Friday night.

The Bobcats got 21 points from Garrett DeBrock, 18 from Shawn Kinder, 17 from Andy Blattel and 12 from Greg Voelker.

Oran (3-3), playing a fellow Class 1A team for the first time this year, was led by Dustin Dannenmueller with 17 points. Billy Loper and Jerod Hamm both added 14 while Chris Nichols had 12.

Delta led 41-27 at halftime and 62-47 after three quarters before Oran made a late run that fell well short.

St. Vincent 36, Leopold 35

LEOPOLD -- A battle of winless teams went down to the wire Friday night, with visiting St. Vincent rallying from 10 points down to upend Leopold.

The Indians (1-6) got 10 points from Josh Wheeler.

Jason Vandeven was the top scorer for the Wildcats (0-6) with nine points.

St. Vincent trailed 30-20 after three quarters but outscored Leopold 17-5 in the final period.

"We got up by 10 and then we got a little flat in the fourth quarter," said Leopold coach Carlton Thoma. "But I think we're improving. We were really competitive tonight."

Said St. Vincent coach Bruce Valleroy, "It's very good to win the first one. It was a good comeback for us. We were looking dead again but in the fourth quarter we really picked up our defense."

Marquand 97, M. Heights 66

MARQUAND -- Dusty Stephens poured in 31 points and grabbed 20 rebounds while Travis Braswell hit five 3-pointers to spark Marquand's home-court romp Friday night.

The Tigers (4-3), who have won four straight games, also got 14 points from Brandon Settle and 11 from Eric Hovis.

Meadow Heights (2-5) was paced by Kevin Weaver with 25 points. Seth Revelle added 10.

"We're finally starting to hit a little groove," said Marquand coach Rob Harlow. "Dusty Stephens is just a monster inside. He's averaging about 18 rebounds a game. And Travis Braswell already has 27 3-pointers this year."

Woodland 56, Fredericktown 51

MARBLE HILL -- Woodland's Cardinals improved to 6-1 Friday night by holding off visiting Fredericktown.

David Massa paced the Cardinals with 16 points while Greg Lincoln had 12.

Fredericktown got 13 points from both Brandon Toppins and Andy Clark.

"I thought we played fair defensively," said Woodland coach Jennings Wilkinson. "We'd get up by 10 or 12 points but we never could really put them away. You have to give Fredericktown credit."

Zalma 77, Chaffee 51

ZALMA -- Zalma won for the first time at home all season as the Bulldogs cruised past visiting Chaffee Friday night.

Gandy Wade scored 17 points to lead five players in double figures for Zalma (2-5). Tim Burchett and Ben Wallace both scored 15, Cory Coffee had 12 and Josh Smith 10.

Chaffee (0-5) got 16 points from Andy Proffer and 12 from Wayne McAllister.

"We came out and played pretty hard. We jumped out on them early and took care of business at home," said Zalma coach John Martin, whose squad led 41-23 at halftime and 63-30 entering the fourth quarter.

Bell City 100, Bernie 77

BERNIE -- Bell City saw five players reach double figures as the Cubs scored a season-high 100 points to rip host Bernie Friday night.

Jacob Jenkins led Bell City (4-3) with 22 points. Right behind were Matt Knoderer, 20, Justin Stephens, 18, Richard Surface, 15, and Jarrod Eftink, 10.

Patrick Wick scored a game-high 26 points for Bernie.

Bell City scored 21 points in both the first and second quarters for a 42-33 lead at halftime. The Cubs then added 29 points in both the third and fourth quarters.
