JACKSON -- Justin Keen and Jeff Walter, a pair of 6-foot-5 juniors, combined for 47 points as Jackson High's boys basketball team rolled past visiting Poplar Bluff 75-52 Friday night.

The Indians, who improved their record to 10-4, got 27 points from Keen and 20 from Walter.

"They're our leading scorers and they're starting to get more consistent," said Jackson coach Steve Burk. "I thought Keen really had a good ballgame."

Jackson led 21-13 after one quarter and 37-30 at halftime. The Indians pulled away in the second half, outscoring the Mules 38-22.

"We played well in spots the first half, but the second half we played better," said Burk.

Poplar Bluff got 10 points from both Raymond Webb and Kiley Spence.

Jackson's JV also prevailed 57-54 as Matt Hale scored 13 points.

Scott City 113

Chaffee 46

SCOTT CITY -- Scott City posted a season-high point total in pounding visiting Chaffee Friday night.

The Rams, who are now 12-1 overall and 4-0 in Scott-Mississippi Conference play, got 25 points from Jon Beck, 20 from Dustin Cauble, 16 from David Inman and 12 from Chris Sisk. All 11 players scored for the Rams.

Chaffee was led by Grant Biler with 10 points.

"We shot the ball well," said Scott City coach Derek McCord. "It was a good conference win."

Scott City opened up a 28-5 first-quarter lead. It was 64-23 at halftime.

Perryville 76

Hillsboro 52

HILLSBORO -- Perryville, which broke into the Class 3A state rankings this week, improved to 12-1 by rolling past host Hillsboro Friday night.

Scott Kassel scored 21 points to pace the Pirates. Matt Meyr had 14 and Paul Weinkein 11. Bruce Weinkein, Perryville's 6-foot-11 center, blocked 11 shots. As a team, the Pirates had 17 blocks.

"I don't think I've ever had a game with 17 blocks," said Perryville coach Rick Francis. "Bruce was swatting them all over the place."

The Pirates grabbed a 23-4 first-quarter lead and cruised from there.

Grandview 50

St. Vincent 43

HILLSBORO -- St. Vincent continues its tough-luck season by losing on the road Friday night.

The Indians (2-7) have lost six games by nine points or less.

"We play people close, but we just can't win," said St. Vincent coach Bruce Valleroy.

Jonathan Wengert scored 13 points to pace the Indians while Nick Hilton had 26 for Grandview.

Bernie 81

Advance 72

ADVANCE -- Advance led by 11 points at halftime but couldn't hold on as visiting Bernie rallied for the victory Friday night.

The Hornets (5-5) got 19 points from Brock Cato while Matt DeJournett and Gary Ahern both scored 14.

Brandon Stone poured in 25 points for Bernie.

Advance was ahead 46-35 at halftime. But the Hornets got into foul trouble in the second half and the Mules capitalized. For the game, Bernie was 25 of 37 from the line while Advance was eight of 13.

"We played a good first half, but we got into foul trouble in the second half and they took advantage," said Advance coach Derek Urhahn.

Charleston 57

Sikeston 40

CHARLESTON -- Charleston pulled away in the second half to knock off visiting Sikeston Friday.

The Blue Jays (12-2) led just 28-25 at halftime.

Rashad Oliver, 18 points, and Larico Coleman, 17, paced the Blue Jays. Henley Montgomery scored 10 for Sikeston.

BOYS SWIMMING

Central second in tri-meet

ST. LOUIS -- Cape Central finished second behind St. Louis University High in a triangular meet Friday.

SLUH had 171 points to 103 for Central and 48 for Vianney.

Central had one first-place performance as Matt Younghouse had a state cut time of 58.20 to win the 100 butterfly.

Younghouse was also second in the 200 freestyle. Others finishing second were Eric Yount (50 freestyle), Ben Roeger (100 backstroke) and Nick Sterrett (diving).

Central's 200 freestyle relay team of Roeger, Ben Chisman, Younghouse and Yount also placed second.

WRESTLING

Jackson 63, DeSoto 17

JACKSON -- Jackson improved to 3-0 in duals by rolling past visiting DeSoto Friday night.

"This was our first time out since Christmas and I thought we wrestled real well," said Jackson coach Steve Wachter.

The Indians won all but three matches. They recorded eight pins, the quickest coming when 160-pounder Kent Glass stuck Cory Casey in just 32 seconds.
