PARK HILLS -- The second-seeded Perryville Lady Pirates played an outstanding defensive game Wednesday night, holding No. 3 seed North County to only 33 points, to advance onto the Class 3A, District 2 final.

The Lady Pirates (20-8) will face No. 1 seed Fredericktown which beat Arcadia Valley 53-50 in overtime.

Seniors Dena Schumer and Cicely Guth led Perryville with 15 and 13 points respectively. Renee Kaempfe had a big game inside for the Lady Pirates, grabbing 11 rebounds and adding seven points.

"Renee played a great game," Perryville coach Steve Wunderlich said. "She really controlled the game on the inside with her rebounding."

The Lady Pirates led 38-27 entering the final quarter and held North County to only six points in the final eight minutes for the win.

The championship game will be Friday night at 6 p.m.

Class 3A, District 1

New Madrid 51, Charleston 35

CHARLESTON -- The top-seeded New Madrid Lady Eagles outscored tournament host Charleston on Wednesday in all four quarters to advance into the final against No. 2 seed Kennett.

The Lady Indians advanced with a high-scoring 91-90 win over third-seed Doniphan in the late game.

Shameka Suggs played her final game for the Lady Blue Jays scoring a team-high 12 points.

Scott City 67, St. Vincent 40

SCOTT CITY -- After a low-scoring first quarter, the Scott City Lady Rams exploded for 25 points in the second quarter to pull away from the St. Vincent Squaws.

Sara Emerson dropped home 23 points and Tara Sanford scored 19 for the Lady Rams as they ended their regular season with a 19-5 record.

Scott City lead only 9-4 after the first quarter before outscoring St. Vincent in a wild second quarter 25-13.

Becky Lorenz scored 19 points for the Squaws (6-17).

Boys basketball

Scott City 80, Portageville 69

PORTAGEVILLE -- Scott City's Chris Sisk made his first seven shots from the field on the way to a game-high 22 points in the Rams 11-point win over Portageville Tuesday.

Sisk's hot shooting was contagious for the Rams at the free throw line as they sank 20-of-24 attempts to hold off the Bulldogs. Tim Lowery added 21 points and dished 12 assists for the Rams.
