SCOTT CITY -- Scott City High girls basketball coach Randy White says Friends University of Wichita, Kan., is getting one fine player -- and White should certainly know.

White's standout senior, Sara Emerson, recently signed a letter of intent with the NAIA school.

All the 5-foot-10 Emerson did this year was lead the Lady Rams in scoring (21 points per game), rebounding (12 per game), steals (five a game) and assists (four per contest).

And all Emerson did during her outstanding career at Scott City was start all four years.

"I've had a few freshman start for me, but not a lot," said White. "She had an outstanding career and I hate to see her go.

"You hate to compare kids, but I will say that I have not had a player that could do as many thing as Sara. She led us in assists and steals several years. She shot 57 percent from the field this year and she plays excellent defense. She's such an unselfish kid and that's one of the things that made her such a joy to coach."

White said that Emerson wants to study the unique field of zoo science biology and Friends has a program for that. In addition, Emerson lived in Wichita for a while as a child.

"It seems like a good fit for her," White said. "She had her mind made up from the very beginning. I had a number of schools contact me about her, but she was intent on going there."

In addition to Emerson's basketball talents, she is also quite a student, ranking first in a senior class of 72.

"She's really a sharp kid," said White. "She's been a tremendous basketball player and student at Scott City."
