A jam session Sunday in Capaha Park helped provide part of the approximately $1,300 that has so far been raised through local donations to support the Kohlfeld Capahas baseball team.

Local musicians and baseball fans Kelly Keene, Bob Camp and Keith Knudson provided the entertainment for about three hours. People who attended or just passed by were encouraged to donate money.

"We had an okay turnout but we had a real good time," said Camp, who said approximately $75 was raised. "We're just some fans who wanted to do what we could to help the Capahas."

And Capahas' manager Jess Bolen certainly appreciated what everybody has been doing to help out the Capahas, who need money for hotel and travel expenses during the National Baseball Congress World Series in Wichita, Kan.

The Capahas went 1-1 in Wichita over the weekend and they'll return to Kansas this weekend for more games in the double-elimination event.

Bolen said that so far about $1,300 has been donated by area businesses and individuals in a fund-raising drive that kicked off last week. The Capahas also raised some money through a raffle.

Bolen said the Capahas have so far spent about $1,550 on three nights lodging and gasoline expenses. The players are responsible for their own meals.

Individuals donating in recent days who had not previously been listed are Jay Sheets, Carl Meyer, Marge Main, Charles Woodford, Rob Weeks, Bill Mabrey and Howard Bock.

"We need more money when we go out there again this week, but we really appreciate all the people who have stepped forward to help us out," said Bolen. "It's really touching."

Anyone wishing to make a donation should call Bolen at 334-7327 or 335-6644.
