DeKALB, Ill. -- Despite finishing first in only one event, Southeast Missouri State University's women's gymnastics team won the Midwest Independent Championships held here Saturday night.

The Otahkians, who closed out the regular season, scored 194.95 to prevail in the four-team meet.

Illinois-Chicago was second (193.625), followed by host Northern Illinois (193.175) and Illinois State (192.15).

Kate Farrington and Erin Chenier tied for first in vaulting with 9.8 scores.

A highlight of the meet for the Otahkians was a school record shared by freshman Ericka Harrison and Kristin Frohlich, who tied for second on the balance beam with 9.925 scores.

Also for the Otahkians, Frohlich tied for second on bars (9.9) and Chenier tied for second on floor (9.85).
