The Calgary Stampeders of the Canadian Football League will continue to sport a Southeast Missouri State University flavor this season.

Last year, running back Kelvin "Earthquake" Anderson was the CFL Newcomer of the Year while two other former Southeast standouts -- Dione Tyler and Frank Russell -- also played for the Stampeders.

This season, Anderson will again be counted on as one of the Stampeders' top players while an ex-Southeast teammate, wide receiver Jon Riley, has earned a spot on Calgary's practice squad.

Tyler and Russell are not with Calgary this season and another former Southeast star, linebacker Brian Burton, did not make the Stampeders' roster after working out with the squad in training camp.

Anderson was scheduled to be in the starting lineup as the Stampeders opened the CFL regular season late Wednesday night with a game against the Edmonton Eskimos.

A New Madrid County Central High product, Anderson ranked third in the CFL in rushing last season with 1,015 yards. He was also second in the league in touchdowns with 14.

Anderson, who rushed for more than 1,000 yards in each of his three seasons at Southeast (1992-94), appears on the front cover of the 1997 Calgary media guide.
