WICHITA, Kan. -- Two-time defending National Baseball Congress champion Kenai, Alaska, ended the Capahas' season for a second straight year, defeating Kohlfeld 10-1 Friday in the NBC World Series.

The Capahas, who finished the year at 30-18 and 3-2 in the tournament, came away with a seventh-place finish.

"I'm proud of the guys," said Capahas manager Jess Bolen. "We got out here and player hard and finished seventh in the nation, which is not bad."

With two runners on in the first inning, Kohlfeld had a chance to jump out front, but Steve Williams line drive was snared by Kenai's third baseman, who leaped high to make the catch.

"If it goes down in the corner we have two runs in and a runner at second," said Bolen. "It seemed like it got us off to a bad start."

Kenai, the No. 2 seed, scored two runs in the first and six in the second for an 8-0 lead. Capahas starter Cliff Politte was lifted with two outs in the second in favor of Ricky Pecaut.

Politte gave up seven earned runs, seven hits and walked three. Pecaut pitched 4 1/3 innings, surrendering two runs, three hits and walking one.

Brian Schaefer drove in the Capahas' lone run in the fourth inning, but Kenai answered with two runs in the fifth. The game ended after seven innings.

"They played like national champions and we didn't," said Bolen. "But I'm proud of the guys."
