A national children's clothing catalog will be working with Children's Bazaar in Cape Girardeau to find young models for the Fall '99 edition.

Children's Apparel Service, a national buying office from Dallas, will bring their production team in May to shoot the catalog.

Applications for the Kid Search Contest may be picked up at Children's Bazaar, 97 N. Kingshighway. The deadline is April 1, explained Judy Wilferth, owner of Children's Bazaar.

Boys, girls and infants through size 10 may enter. About 40 children will be chosen by the CAS staff and notified of their acceptance at the beginning of May.

The children are not paid.

Julene Ducommun, owner and president of CAS, said Cape Girardeau was chosen for the fall catalog shoot because of it's location in the Midwest. "We wanted to share with the nation how beautiful the Heartland of America can be," she said. "Children's Bazaar is a great store, and we can't wait to work with them on location."

Other catalogs have been shot in Miami, Fla., Springfield, Mo., Wichita, Kan., San Antonio, Texas, Memphis, Tenn., Austin, Texas, and Cape Girardeau.

A similar model search and catalog shoot was held here in 1995. Some 800 applications were received at that time.

The Fall '99 catalogs will be distributed by stores all over the country.

"Although the children are not compensated, all of them will have a special memory and a lot of fun," Wilferth said.

Ducommun added, "It's exciting for the parents and the children. That's why we decided to take the shoots on the road. Now each new catalog has a different look and features average kids next door, not just professional models."
