JACKSON -- Kirk Jahn, a 39-year-old farmer and owner of an excavating company, was killed Thursday afternoon in an accident at the family farm.

The accident occurred about 5 p.m. at the farm on County Road 306 just east of Jackson.

Cape Girardeau County Coroner John Carpenter said Jahn was painting a piece of heavy equipment when its bucket accidentally fell on him. He was killed instantly.

He and his wife started Jahn Excavating Co. in 1985, and he leased farmland in Illinois, Dutchtown, Whitewater, Delta, Arbor and Jackson.

He was a former president of the Farm Bureau.
