TIMBER HAULER DUCKS, AVOIDS INJURY IN CRASH

JACKSON -- A Mississippi timber hauler escaped with minor injuries Monday after the cab of his truck became impaled by logs on Jackson Boulevard

The driver of the truck, David Mooneyham of Randolph, Miss., was following another loaded timber truck when a vehicle pulled into the path of the lead truck. As the lead truck came to a sudden stop, Mooneyham could not avoid striking the lead truck and the timber it was carrying.

"All I could do was duck my head," a shaken Mooneyham said at the scene. "There was a car next to me, so all I could do was hit the brakes and duck."

Jackson police officer Darrell Sievers was nearby when the accident occurred and came to the aid of Mooneyham.

"He ducked just in time, because he had a log go right over his head," stated Sievers.

The driver of the lead truck stated that a vehicle he could not identify pulled into the path of his truck.

"This car came right in front of me, and you can see the peel marks it left," said the driver of the lead truck. "There wasn't anything I could do but hit my brakes."

The timber drivers have been in the Jackson area for approximately seven weeks and are part of a timber crew working nearby.
