A groundbreaking ceremony is set for today to kick off the beginning of the construction of the Bloomfield Road project.

Cape Girardeau Mayor Al Spradling III and Mark Lester, Cape Girardeau city engineer, will be on hand to participate in the ceremony at 9 a.m. today at the Bloomfield Road Baptist Church, 2919 Bloomfield Road.

The project is part of the 20 road improvements funded by the city's transportation sales tax. Improvements to the road will begin at Siemers Drive and go to Kingshighway. The Bloomfield project also will include work to a 580-foot stretch of Silver Springs Road that begins at Bloomfield Road.

The total price tag for the project is $1.7 million and should be completed by July of 2000.
