CAPAHAS WIN TWO GAMES IN TOURNEY

CLARINDA, Iowa -- The Kohlfeld Capahas set up a championship showdown in a four-team round-robin tournament by winning games against Omaha (Neb.) and host Clarinda Saturday.

The Capahas, 3-0 on the season, defeated Omaha 3-2 before rolling past Clarinda 8-2. Kohlfeld will face Wichita, also 2-0 in the tournament, for the title today at 2 p.m.

The Capahas enjoyed big first innings in both games, scoring all three of its runs against Omaha in the opening frame and five against Clarinda.

Lanson Debrock recorded the win in the opener with Todd Pennington notching the save. Debrock pitched 6 2-3 innings, allowing five hits and four walks and striking out six. Pennington came on to retire the final out on a flyball with runners at first and second.

Darrick Smith and Darren Kinsolving had RBI singles in the first and Jeff Bourbon had an RBI double. Kinsolving had two of Kohlfeld's six hits.

Chad Bogenpohl turned in a stellar nine-inning performance against Clarinda, which finished sixth at last year's NBC Tournament in Wichita, Kan. Staked to a 5-0 lead in the first, Bogenpohl allowed only single runs in the first and third innings. He struck out eight, allowed eight hits and walked one.

"Bogie was just dominating," said Kohlfeld manager Jess Bolen.

Smith and Kinsolving both had two of Kohlfeld's seven hits. Kinsolving and Ryan Murphy each had two RBIs.
