The Cape Girardeau Public Library has installed new adaptive equipment for people with low vision and reduced mobility.

The library used a $3,250 grant from the Missouri State Library for a Pentium III computer with a 21-inch monitor, a large key keyboard, two screen magnifiers and a specialized mouse.

One of the magnifiers has been installed on a computerized catalog terminal. The rest of the equipment is available for use in the reference department.

"This new adaptive equipment allows us to better serve those in our community with special needs," said Library Director Betty Martin.

"For many years now we have had available hand-held magnifiers, a closed-circuit television and growing collections of both large-type books and books on tape. The recent grant allows us to also provide aids for the newest in technology."
