ANDREW CLARK WINS GALLUP 4-H SCHOLARSHIP

COLUMBIA - Jackson High School graduate Andrew Clark was announced as one of three recipients of the Dennis E. Gallup 4-H Memorial Scholarship during the Missouri 4- H Foundation annual recognition banquet, Oct. 1. Each received $1,000 for college expenses.

The other recipients were Janet Cody, Silex, Mo.; Jami Goodwin, Denver, Mo.; Heather LaShell, Phillipsburg, Mo.; and Tiffany Nalley, Chadwick, Mo.

Clark is a freshman at the University of Missouri-Rolla, majoring in mechanical engineering. He is a member of Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity and graduated from Jackson High School. He is the son of Allen and Joyce Clark.

Cody is a freshman at William Jewell College in Liberty, Mo. She is majoring in elementary education and is a member of C.H.A.S.E., which tutors children in low-income neighborhoods. A graduate of Silex R-1 High School, she is the daughter of Patrick and Vivian Cody.

Also a freshman, Goodwin majors in political science at Southwest Missouri State University in Springfield, Mo. She is involved in Phi Alpha Delta, Chi Alpha and the honors college. A graduate of Worth County R-III High School, she is the daughter of James and Clella Goodwin.

LaShell, a graduate of Buffalo High School, is a freshman at Northwest Missouri State University in Maryville, Mo., majoring in horticulture. She is a member of the Horticulture Club and Agriculture Club. Her parents are Leo, Jr., and Barbara LaShell.

Nalley, a graduate of Chadwick R-1 High School, is studying elementary education at College of the Ozarks in Point Lookout, Mo. Her parents are Darrell and Beverly Nalley.

This year the Missouri 4-H Foundation will award $28,800 in 4-H scholarships to 34 young people in Missouri. Applicants were evaluated in areas such as community service, 4-H involvement and resume.

Dennis E. Gallup was a youth specialist in Macon County when he died in 1974. His wife, Vicki Jaynes of Arvada, Colo., and his parents, Everett Gallup and the late Wilna Gallup, of O'Fallon, Mo., sponsor the scholarship.

Started in 1975, the scholarships are awarded annually by the Missouri 4-H Foundation. All active and former 4-H members are eligible for the scholarship if they enroll as freshmen at an accredited two- or four-year college, university or technical school.

Don Henderson, director of the Missouri 4-H Foundation, said during the last four years the number of scholarships that the Foundation has provided has doubled.

"With the escalating cost of college, more people are realizing the importance of providing assistance to outstanding individuals through 4-H," he said. "They see the value of what 4-H is doing for Missouri's young people."
