This week the Southeast Missourian asked, "What do you think of the new law in California that bans smoking in most bars and gambling casinos?"

"I'm for it because I'm not a smoker. I like it because it will protect employees and also protect customers."

"I think they're not going to have any business. I just think it will hurt their business, I really do."

"I think it's terrible, I think it will hurt their business. We have rights. We pay taxes just like everyone else."

Carolyn Stevenson, Thebes, Ill.

"I don't think it's going to work. There are too many smokers. I don't smoke but I know so many people that smoke."

Brenda Palmer, McClure, Ill.

"I think it's going against the person's freedom to do what they want. It's against their rights. Even though I can't smoke anymore. They should have a smoking area for all of them and for the nonsmokers."
