The Cracker Barrel Old Country Store Restaurant is observing its fifth anniversary in Cape Girardeau this month.

The Cracker Barrel, 3216 William, adjacent to the Holiday Inn, opened in January 1993.

A birthday cake will be served at the restaurant today from 2 to 4 p.m. Fifteen employees have worked at the restaurant since its opening.

The Cracker Barrel is open seven days a week. Hours are 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday.

The Cape Girardeau store was the fifth one in in Missouri. The company, headquartered in Lebanon, Tenn., operates more than 140 company-owned restaurants in 18 states.

The menu features country dinner plates, with choices from 11 meats and 12 vegetables. Breakfast is served all day.

The gift shop features old-fashioned candies, jams and jellies, and "remember when" edibles.
