SIKESTON -- U.S. Rep. J.C. Watts Jr., R-Okla., will speak Tuesday at a campaign event for U.S. Rep. Jo Ann Emerson.
He will speak at 5:30 p.m. in the banquet room at the Sikeston Ramada Inn. Doors open at 5 p.m.
Admission is free, but donations will be accepted. All proceeds will benefit the Sikeston Mission Missouri Soup Kitchen and the Fellowship of Christian Athletes.
Watts will discuss his vision for an American renewal.
Emerson, R-Cape Girardeau, said Watts is an "exciting and charismatic" man who will share his message of faith, hope and leadership.
Watts, a second-term member of Congress, is a former quarterback for the University of Oklahoma.
Watts led the Sooners to consecutive Big Eight championships and Orange Bowl victories. He was inducted into the Orange Bowl Hall of Honor in 1992.
Watts has argued for moral leadership since coming to Congress. He introduced the Community Renewal Project in an attempt to bring spiritual, moral and economic renewal to communities.
In addition to his congressional duties, Watts serves on the board of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes in Oklahoma. He also travels throughout the country as a guest preacher and as the associate pastor of Sunnylane Baptist Church in Del City, Okla.
Tuesday's event is sponsored by Emerson's campaign organization, Team Emerson.
