Dogwood seedling sale, in connection with beautification project sponsored by Jackson Community Betterment Association, has been set for Friday and Saturday at Schaper's Shopping Center; approximately 1,800 trees, 2 to 3 feet high, will be sold at 49 cents each with proceeds to be used for association's civic projects.

Cape Girardeau County Court has authorized leasing of data recorder for county collector's office, which this year will have its tax books and tax billing work done by Cape Data Processing Service Inc. in Cape Giardeau; recorder will be leased for $155 per month from IBM Corp., which submitted only bid.

Purchase of six new school buses to replace older models was approved by Jackson R-2 Board of Education Tuesday night; Dr. Frank Wiley, superintendent of schools, reported that Superior Coach Sales of St. Louis was awarded contract for purchase of six bodies and Ford Groves of Cape Girardeau was awarded contract for purchase of six chassis.

Bob McLane was selected mayor of Oak Ridge when City Council met to reorganize after delayed declaration on results of April 3 election was made; his father, Kenneth McLane, is city clerk and other members of council and their assignments are Lee Davis, treasurer; Mike King, street commissioner, and Roy Probst, collector.

Eddie Chandler, assistant county extension agent since January, has taken similar post in Mississippi County, Arkansas, and has moved to Blytheville with his wife and their daughter, Glenda Lou.

Forcing their way through window and door, thief or thieves stole approximately $160 in school funds from high school and grade school in Jackson Saturday night or Sunday; considerable damage was done to two buildings when burglars tried to force number of windows at high school before they succeeded in gaining entrance.

Viewing possibility of installing parking meters in Jackson business district, Mayor J.R. Bowman appointed committee Monday night to canvass business men and find out their attitude; four aldermen appointed were Floyd McManus, William K. Sander, Richard Lewis and Troy E. Gladish.

Permits for $21,450 in new building were issued Monday by City Council, including a park-and-eat cafe on Highway 61 to L.O. Crites, and three residences and one private garage; Crites plans to build frame building, 35 by 35 feet, for $3,500 on part of Daley heirs land, across from Travelers Inn.

Results of Tuesday's election in Jackson shows only 102 persons voting in city and school balloting; mill tax for public park improvements carried by vote of 97 for to 15 against; winning Board of Aldermen seats without opposition were J.A. Schaper, Harry Hoffmeister, John I. Ellis and Richard Lewis; also running unopposed for school board were John I. Ellis and Harry G. Cracraft.

Work of tearing out inside of Central Hotel is going on; repairs and remodeling of burned structure will begin soon, and up-to-date building will be result.

William G. Sander, 67 years old, retired farmer of Gordonville, died at his home April 9 of complication of diseases growing out of attack of influenza; born three miles south of Gordonville, March 24, 1856, Sander grew to manhood on farm, moving from there to another farm near Gordonville after his marriage to Mary Kester in 1885; Sander lived on farm until 15 years ago, when he retired from active farm work and moved to Gordonville.

T.D. Hines is preparing to build two new houses on his lot on Main Street, near old Burford Hotel.

The Rev. A.G.H. Wagner of London, Ark., is expected to arrive in this county this week with his family; he will take charge of Lutheran congregation at Hannover.

At enthusiastic meeting of parents and teachers of Jackson Tuesday night at high school, Parent-Teacher Association was organized and full set of officers elected; Mrs. D.G. Seibert was elected president, Emma Hoffman vice president; Mrs. Frieda Gockel secretary, and Mrs. C.L. Grant, treasurer.
