Four general contractors submitted bids for a renovation project planned at Cape Girardeau Junior High School.

School district architect John Dudley opened the bids during a Board of Education meeting Thursday. Contractors submitted a base bid for general alterations and renovations to the building and a second bid to provide air conditioning in the school's gymnasium.

School board members are scheduled to award a contract in two weeks.

The renovations are part of the school district's master plan, which is divided into three phases over the next five years. Activities in the first phase of the master plan include building an elementary school and a vocational-technical school, closing May Greene and Washington elementary schools and making necessary renovations to all the remaining school buildings.

The junior high is scheduled to be transformed into a fifth- and sixth-grade center in the master plan's second phase.
