Members of Faith Evangelical Church will hold the first Sunday services in their new building this weekend.

The church has been in existence since 1986, but for 12 years it has been meeting at Trinity Lutheran School.

The pastor, the Rev. Fred Burgard, said for a long time the church just wasn't big enough to make the move to a building of its own.

"We had some land donated to us, and over time the congregation grew," Burgard said.

The congregation broke ground for the church in September 1997.

"It took about nine months to get it finished," Burgard said. "It took more time because we as a congregation did a lot of the work ourselves."

The church is at 5303 Old Cape Road near the intersection of Interstate 55 and U.S. Highway 61.

The church invites anyone who is interested to their celebration service on Sunday. A formal dedication service is set for September.

Services begin Sunday at 8:45 a.m. with Sunday school. There is also time for fellowship from 9:45 a.m. to 10:15 a.m. Worship service begins at 10:15 a.m.

For more information call the church at 334-3464.
