"American Heart Walk is a fund-raising event that benefits the American Heart Association's research support and educational and community service programs," said Nancy Southwick, chairman of the board of the American Heart Associations Cape Girardeau division.

The American Heart Association is honoring all walk participants who have survived heart disease or stroke by awarding a red cap.

Participants collect donations for walking the course.
