Several people and organizations were honored by St. Francis Medical Center Thursday during the National Rehabilitation Week Awards Ceremony. Sept. 13-19 marks National Rehabilitation Week.
Those honored contributed support services, increased public awareness for the disabled or demonstrated courage.
Billy Carnell of Jackson and Kellie Trentham of East Prairie were honored for their efforts to create a positive image of the physically disabled or the rehabilitation process.
Greg Clark of Home Medical Supply in Poplar Bluff was honored for his service to the disabled. Candy Wilson of Cape Girardeau was honored as an advocate promoting opportunities for the disabled.
Two organizations were recognized for their work to increase awareness and understanding of the disabled. They were Perryville American Legion and Jackson.
A new category honoring patient's families for their role in recovery was included this year. Jimmie Tucker of Cape Girardeau and Tommy and Sonja Miller of Scott City were honored.
Wall of Fame patients were honored also. They were nominated for the story of their illness, disability or rehabilitation. The Wall of Fame recognizes people who have a positive attitude and determination to return to earlier activities. Often they inspire other patients in rehabilitation.
Honored were Kellie Trentham of East Prairie, William Kutz of Perryville, Carlisa Prouty of Piedmont, Irene Godnez of Cobden, Ill., Christine Martin of Scott City, Dennis Morris of Bernie, Mary Pazdera of Charleston, Jimmie Tucker of Cape Girardeau, Cory Lee of Advance, Christian Jacobs of Sikeston and Teresa Potocki of Marion, Ill.
