Young journalists from the region will learn from experts and each other during a conference at Southeast Missouri State University Thursday.

The 25th annual Southeast Missouri Scholastic Press Association (SEMSPA) workshop will convene at 9:15 a.m. at the University Center. SEMSPA is affiliated with the Missouri Interscholastic Press Association.

Student journalists and their advisers will attend workshops related to news gathering, photography, yearbook design and other topics throughout the day. A write-off contest and student newspaper competition is also scheduled.

Mark Scharenbroich will deliver the keynote address during the event. Scharenbroich, an Emmy-winning actor and published author, has delivered motivational speeches to schools in the United States, Canada and Europe for the past 19 years. He is headquartered in Minnetonka, Minn.
