Winners of the 1998 YELL "Regal Riverfront" contest are Nancy Ernst of Bonne Terre and Denny Drum of Jackson.

The winners each receive two gift certificates redeemable at the Regal Riverfront Hotel in St. Louis for complimentary one-night's accommodations for two in a Regal Class room.

The winners were randomly selected from those who entered the contest, which was part of this year's Southeast Missourian YELL edition. The YELL edition was sold on street corners in Cape Girardeau, Jackson and Scott City. Funds raised through YELL benefit literacy efforts in the area.

The contest asked readers to answer three questions. Answers were found within the pages of the YELL edition.

1. "It's come, Mama. It's come." What came? The Southeast Missourian, from an article written by Jean Bell Mosley.

2. Who likes reading "Chicka, Chicka ABC's" to Natalie? Judge John W. Grimm, from the center spread of articles from local community leaders.

3. What was Cosmo Kramer reading? The VCR manual, from an article, "Books are friends in high (and low) places."

Ernst said her sister, who lives in Jackson, bought the YELL edition for her and sent it up to Bonne Terre. She often gets the Missourian in this manner. Ernst made a deal with her sister that if the YELL paper turned out to be a winner, the two would take the trip to St. Louis and "shop until we drop."

Drum arrives at work in the early morning hours, before YELL volunteers hit the streets. But she and co-workers took up a collection to go out and buy the special edition. Drum said the project is valuable because of the work it does to promote reading.
