A number of area quilters received honors during the River Heritage Quilt Show in the Family Life Center at Centenary United Methodist Church. More than 600 people attended the weekend show to see local quilts on display and to learn more about quilting techniques...

A number of area quilters received honors during the River Heritage Quilt Show in the Family Life Center at Centenary United Methodist Church.

More than 600 people attended the weekend show to see local quilts on display and to learn more about quilting techniques.

Dorothy Wibbenmeyer of Perryville won Best of Show honors for her quilt. She also took first place in the applique category. Mary Bell Dohogne of Cape Girardeau won the Viewer's Choice award. A Judge's Choice award went o Judy Robinson of Cape Girardeau, owner of a group quilt.

First, second and third places were also presented for each of the seven categories judged. First-place and best-of-show winners received $100; second place, $75; and third place, $50.

Other winners include Patty Stone of Poplar Bluff, first place in pieced quilts; Judy Robinson, second; and Nancy Ross of Cape Girardeau, third place. Shirley Holmes of Jackson received an honorable mention.

Wanda Bowling of Fredericktown received second place in applique; Mary Kay Reed of Jonesboro, Ill., third place; and Linda Kline of Poplar Bluff, honorable mention.

In group quilts, Robinson took first place; Nancy Pleimann and the Monday Nite Literary Society received second place; third place went to a quilt owned by Julie Zinner of Cape Girardeau and quilted by the River Heritage Guild; and Betty Murray earned honorable mention.

Wall Hangings had the most entries to judge. First place went to Caroline Tilghman of Cape Girardeau; Nancy Ross, second place; Robin Halter of Carbondale, Ill., third place; and Dorothy Wibbenmeyer, honorable mention.

Lynn Taylor of Cape Girardeau received first place for miniature quilts; Robinson, second place; Jane Stodghill, third place; and Rita Whaley of Jackson, honorable mention.

In the "Stars" theme competition, Whaley took first place. Robinson received second, and Betty Cord of Jackson ranked third. Honorable mention went to Halter.

In the other techniques category Idell Dockins of Jackson took first place; Dave Walker of Cape Girardeau, second place; Sally White of Cape Girardeau, third place; and Monica Lewis of Gordonville, honorable mention.

A silent auction was held during the two-day show to help raise money for breast cancer awareness. More than $1,000 was raised during the auction. Guild members donated quilted items for the auction.
