Motorists crossing the Mississippi River Bridge in Cape Girardeau can expect delays as one lane of traffic is closed while repairs are completed on the structure.
Driving delays of 10 to 15 minutes can be expected, according to the Missouri Department of Transportation. The repair work may take until Monday to complete.
The westbound lane coming into Cape Girardeau from Illinois is closed. Flag personnel will be directing traffic around the clock.
Missouri Department of Transportation crews are repairing a beam under the bridge driving surface.
Inspection crews found the problem Wednesday during the annual evaluation of the structure. State bridges are inspected every year.
The repairs will be done by a state crew from Jefferson City.
Over-sidth loads including farm machinery, will not be able to cross.
