The Cape Girardeau Lions Club has endorsed the River Campus tax measure on the November ballot.
Club members voted 27 to 2 to support the ballot issue, said acting secretary Mike Shivelbine said. The vote was taken during the club's luncheon meeting Wednesday at the Holiday Inn.
The club's bylaws require a two-thirds majority to endorse an issue.
Shivelbine said the majority of members felt Southeast Missouri State University's plan to develop a former Catholic seminary into a school for visual and performing arts would benefit the community.
Cape Girardeau voters are being asked to approve a measure to increase the hotel-motel gross receipts tax from 3 to 4 percent and extend it from 2004 to 2030. The measure also would extend, but not increase, the 1 percent restaurant tax from 2004 to 2030.
